Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr was born as Hedwig Eva Kiesler on November 9th 1914 and she passed away on January 19th, 2000 in Casselberry Florida. Lamarr met many influential role models in her life as she was very interested in technology and the way things worked. She grew up as an actress so she had a lot of oppertunities to meet different people that could heighten her career as both an actress and inventor. Those friends in her life taught her many things and help contribute to producing some of her ideas. She and her friend the composer, George Antheil, received a patent for an idea of a radio signaling device, or "Secret communication system," which was a way of switching or changing radio frequencies to prevent enemies from decoding messages. They were both awarded with the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) pioneer award. That same year she became the first female to receive the BULBIE Gnass Spirit of Achievment Award, considered the "Oscars" of inventing. Today, her innovation makes possible a wide range of wireless communications technology, including Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth.
